Spring 1

Our topic this half term is Funnybones. We begin our term by learning about our bodies, how we grow and change, keeping healthy and people who help us such as doctors, firemen and dentists. We bring our learning to life during the half term with visits from parents and relatives that are doctors, vets and mothers with young babies. It is great fun having lots of different visitors  and we learn a lot about ourselves.

As part of our PE sessions within this topic we have some fantastic  dance workshops with dance teacher Hayley from Wakey Wakey Dance. We learn to move in a variety of ways using our own ideas and imagination and we also think about how exercise affects our body and how it helps to keep us healthy.

We end our term with our Funnybones open morning where we invite our parents/carers to join us for some fun activities. We also get the chance to share our learning from the half term with our friends and family.

Spring 2

Our topic this half term is Under the Sea. We have learn all about life under the sea. We are able to learn more about this during our exciting trip to the Blue Reef Aquarium in Portsmouth. We have a fantastic talk whilst on our trip where we find out lots of information about starfish and crabs, we even get to touch these two sea creatures whilst in the education room.

We love using information books to find out more about life under the sea. In our writing we make lists of what we saw on our visit, label pictures with a range of ‘describing’ words and enjoy creating adventure stories for the Rainbow Fish. We are very creative like Christopher Cockerel in our own learning and make some fantastic artwork and fish tanks.

We absolutely love having a music workshop called Shake Rattle and Roll with Mark and Paul. The session is loud, fun and engaging! We listen to lots of different percussion instruments and learn how to play them. We then make up our own exciting ‘Sea Music’ using a wide range of percussion instruments.

Our final event for our Under the Sea topic is an underwater performance to our parents. We listen to the story Commotion in the Ocean and make up our own creature dances in response to a range of music. We learn the poems for the different sea creatures and recite them as part of our performance.
