The Governing Board plays a strategic role in supporting and challenging the school to ensure that every child receives the best possible education. Governors work closely with the Headteacher and school leaders to help shape the school's vision, values and long-term development.

At Hiltingbury Infant School, our governors are committed to putting children at the heart of every decision. They work collaboratively with school leaders to ensure that pupils are happy, safe and able to achieve their full potential in a caring and inspiring learning environment.

Governors are responsible for:

  • Setting the strategic direction of the school.

  • Monitoring and evaluating the school's performance and progress towards its priorities.

  • Ensuring financial resources are used effectively and provide value for money.

  • Supporting and challenging school leaders to drive continuous improvement.

  • Ensuring the school meets its statutory duties and responsibilities.

  • Promoting the wellbeing, safeguarding and achievement of all pupils.

Governors visit the school regularly to gain a better understanding of school life and to see first-hand the impact of decisions and initiatives.

Our Governors take on specific roles and act as a link between the Governing body and the school, for example in the areas of Special Educational Needs and Disability, Safeguarding, Healthy Eating and subjects including Maths and English.

Governor Meetings

The Governing Board meets regularly throughout the academic year to discuss key aspects of school leadership, performance and development. Meetings provide an opportunity for governors to review progress against the School Development Plan, monitor educational outcomes, consider financial matters, and ensure that statutory requirements are being met.

Governors receive reports from the Headteacher and school leaders and use these to ask questions, seek assurance and support the school's ongoing improvement. Through constructive challenge and strategic oversight, governors help ensure that the school remains a safe, effective and nurturing environment where all children can thrive.

Pecuniary Interests

The Register of Governors' Business and Pecuniary Interests is reviewed and updated annually. Information is published for all governors and associate members serving during the previous 12 months in accordance with Department for Education guidance.
