Phonics Information

At Hiltingbury Infant School, we believe that learning to read is one of the most important skills a child will develop. Through high-quality phonics teaching, we support children to become confident readers, writers and communicators.

Phonics is taught daily from the start of Year R using a structured and engaging approach. Children learn to recognise the sounds that letters make, blend sounds together to read words and segment words to support their spelling and writing.

We want every child to develop a love of reading and the confidence to explore new books, belong to a community of readers and grow into successful lifelong learners.

If you have any questions about phonics or reading, please speak to your child's class teacher, who will be happy to help.
